SIG Sauer is synonymous with quality firearms around the world, and while recent product expansions to the companies brand may seem an aggressive path to pursue to some, it shouldn’t since the company had its beginnings building products far removed from the company’s quality gun focus of today. In fact, SIG started out as the Swiss Wagon Factory all the way back in 1853, its primary purpose building wagons and railway cars. Eleven years later, however, the wagon factory landed its first contract with the Swiss government to produce 30,000 muzzleloaders. The contract and subsequent switch in product focus must’ve been an epiphany for owners and managers since that same year, the Swiss Wagon Factory changed its name to the Swiss Industrial Company—Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft—or SIG as they would come to be known regardless if they were called SIGARMS or as late as 2007, SIG Sauer.
Renowned for their high-performing semi-auto tactical rifles and handguns, SIG decided to go all in in recent years with product line expansions that go far beyond the standard firearm foundation. Ammunition, rifle scopes, binoculars, rangefinders, air guns, magazines and apparel are but some of the products with the SIG name and corresponding expectation of quality that have hit store shelves, much to the delight of SIG fans in particular and firearms fans in general. Following are some of the key product lines now being sold under the SIG banner:
Ammo – Also known as SIG Elite Ammunition (sigammo.com), has only been out a couple of years, but when it rolled out, not only did thrill SIG fans, but it generated a collective sigh of relief among consumers weary of ammunition shortages and eager to see another player in the field. The brand offers five lines of ammunition: SIG V-Crown defensive loads, SIG FMJ handgun ammo, SIG 300BLK supersonic match-grade centerfire cartridges, SIG Match Grade centerfire loads in 308 Win. or 300 Win Mag, and SIG HT 300BLK hunting-dedicated loads.
Optics – SIG Sauer’s Electro-Optics division (sigoptics.com) hit the market amid great fanfare just a year ago and introduced to the world a line of optics that with the ammunition and firearms, allow shooters to build a true complete SIG shooting system. SIG didn’t enter the market with a few token, branded offerings either. They became a legit players rapidly with a full line of tactical and hunting riflescopes; battle, reflex, red dot and pistol sights; thermal reflex sights; laser sights; weapons lights; rangefinders; spotting scopes; binoculars; and even mounts for their sights.
Suppressors – Talking complete shooting system, SIG now offers silencers through SIG Silencers for both centerfire and rimfire rifles as well as pistols.
Airguns – With the motto “Shoots Like a SIG Because It Is One,” SIG Sauer’s Advanced Sport Pellet Airgun line offers a full line of pellet rifles and air pistols, pellets, targets and CO2 cartridges for target competition and fun plinking.
Accessories – Through SIG Sauer’s primary website online store, consumers can also purchase SIG branded magazines, holsters, gun parts, apparel and gear.
