When testing new products, I have come to the realization that it’s not possible to judge a book by its cover. However, judging a book by its cover is exactly what I did when I got a first look at Sig Sauer’s Whiskey 3 rifle scope.
On this particular test I would be reviewing the 2-7X 32mm Scope. When I first opened the box, I encountered very well thought out and eye catching packaging, but the scope itself seemed small, giving me the feeling that it wasn’t going to fulfill the needs of a predator hunter. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The first testing of the Whiskey 3 occurred after receiving the Sig Sauer M400 Vanish .223 rifle The gun sighted in fairly quickly and the scope seemed to be clear because of the low dispersion (LD) glass, which provides industry leading optical clarity for any situation from target shooting to using while predator hunting.
Since I typically use high powered scopes that have a lot of magnification, it took me a little while to get familiar with the smaller size of the Whiskey 3 since it only has 7 power magnification. However, once I started taking it with me while predator hunting I noticed the Whiskey 3, 2-7X32mm was actually the perfect size optic to put on top of the M400 Vanish. This particular rifle is a fairly small firearm, which is why it makes sense to use a scope that isn’t oversized compared to the rifle. A .223 is typically used when an animal is within 250 yards, this resulted in the realization that I actually didn’t want or need a scope that has a more powerful zoom. While in the field, I have also become fond of the European style eyepiece which is designed to provide a smooth, fast, and precise reticle adjustment which can be helpful on an approaching coyote.
Over the past two months using the Whiskey 3 2-7X32mm scope, I have realized that my first impression of this very affordable scope was wrong. The scope that I first thought would not hold up to the needs of a predator hunter, is now becoming a part of a setup that I favor when hunting predators.
Sig Sauer has designed the Whiskey 3 scope to be able to fit any desired size of weapon. They also went offer Custom Ballistic Turrets which are perfectly matched to the ballistics of what the hunter is shooting. The Sig Ballistic Turret comes with a custom laser-etched elevation dial. This is available with all of their Electro-Optics.
The Whiskey 3 is available in a 4-12X50mm, 3-9X40mm, 3-9X50mm, or in 2-7X32mm, which is the one I tested.
For a scope that is so perfectly matched to the weapon of choice as well as the specific ballistics, it amazes me that it retails for just $229.99. This is truly a great optic for a great price.
